It is a worth visiting Lithuania during festivals, as it becomes alive with its unique character. Lithuanians love traditions. The Vilnius Festival is one of the most prestigious, solid and versatile classical music events in Lithuania and a major summer vacation for music-lovers during the hottest tourist season. With main interest in presenting classical music, performed by the recognized soloists, ensembles and symphony orchestras from all over the world, the Vilnius Festival also continues to promote contemporary Lithuanian music by commissioning new large-scale works, and offers a platform for jazz and musical theater.
Vilnius Book Fair – The largest book fair in the Baltics, At the end of February, Vilnius Book Fair is attended by over 55,000 people a year and become a major cultural forum at the Litexpo display center and there are sales of books published in Lithuania taking place at bookstores and cultural spaces around Vilnius, as well as opportunities to meet famous authors from all around the world.
Spring Film Festival (Kino Pavasaris) – This international film festival in late March/early April concentrates on critically acclaimed noncommercial films. For audio-visual art lovers, it is a rare opportunity to see well-regarded films not made for the public. Increasingly successful and popular each year, the festival cooperates and culls its components from all the best film festivals in the world. Guests also have the opportunity to participate in film discussions and chat up industry celebrities at the necessary after-parties.
Vilnius Festival – The annual festival of classical music occurs each June, for the whole month. The Vilnius Festival presents a number of black-tie musical concerts performed by the most popular Lithuanian and foreign musicians. Held in the city’s famed concert halls, the performances cover an array of styles and genres from classical and baroque to jazz and folk.
Capital Days – Probably the biggest Vilnius festival, the events of which fill up the city for several days at the end of August and the beginning of September. This layman’s festival is intended for everyone. The week of ‘Sostines Dienos (Capital City Days) literally blows up with fireworks, carnivals, modern pop groups, street theater spectacles, markets, concerts, film reviews, acrobatic performances, improvised performances, street art and other events that traditionally take place in Gedimino Prospect, Cathedral Square and Town Hall Square, Vingio Park and the courtyard of the Vilnius Teachers House.
Vilnius Jazz Festival – The Vilnius Jazz Festival presents Lithuanian audiences to the contemporary trends of the jazz world by bringing international names to town. This jazz festival has a tradition of 20 years standing and a very high reputation for attracting performers of the best quality on the international jazz scene. It is organized in the middle of October. International jazz experts call this festival an event that sets new directions in jazz.
